Current Happenings
Feb 28, 2010

This past week I wrapped up my work on the April issue of Indianapolis Monthly. Being responsible for several pages of the magazine and a full page photo illustration, it has been one crazy month. However, it was filled with collaboration and bold experience with publication design. The above image is the final photo illustration that will be printed in the April issue covering the Harlem Globetrotters.

At Herron, I have been working with Community Heights, a local neighborhood association on the east side of Indianapolis, creating a new identity and website. We are in first stages as we sketch concepts and create digital mock ups for our upcoming meeting. Above is my latest concept of re branding the community as a diverse multicultural neighborhood.
Lastly, I’ve been working with a local music artist and will be creating his next two album covers. I’m very excited about this project and expect amazing results. Also, BUSINESS CARDS COME THIS WEEK! Stay tuned!

iPad vs. Portfolio Book
Feb 12, 2010

With the recent announcement of Apple’s iPad, the future of print has become even more questioned. Newspapers, books and magazines are all phasing to a digital life where not only extreme costs are reduced, but it can be edited and shared with the world in an instant. Print is a beauty in its own form from touch to glossy glimmer, it will always be around in some form but as even billboards move to the LED spectacular show, print will be less involved in our day-to-day lives.
As a designer, I find that gathering up my creative life in preparation for an interview can be all overwhelming, costly, but yet very exciting. Yesterday, as I was prepping my portfolio book, I thought how adaptive would design firms be to allowing the iPad to be used as a portfolio viewer? The cost and mobility surpasses that of any portfolio book, but the biggest obstacle is size. The screen size of the iPad is only 9.7-inches of full high resolution color, some books can be much larger of that size. The question still lingers in my head, what would design firms think of such a topic?
The March Issue
Feb 07, 2010

It has been one month since I joined Indianapolis Monthly’s art team and the experience has been amazing. Just this past week we sent our March issue to the press for printing and the level of excitement I have to hold the issue in my hand is great. This is the first issue at IM to have my name listed in the Mast Head and to include 2 ads and illustrations of mine. Once the issue hits newsstands, I’ll make sure to fill you in page by page of those that include my design work.
On a different note, I have finally sent my business cards off to the printers and should expect them before the first of March. I think the design turned out very solid and I’m ready to see them on card stock with UV coating. Stay tuned!
Today’s music shout out goes to Afghan Raiders remix to Deadbeat Summer by Neon Indian. Not only does it pump my blood with energy, but the composed beats are near perfection. Great remix tune, enjoy!

New Samsung LCD!
Feb 07, 2010
In January I received my new LCD Television which I have fallen in love with. For the past 5 months I have been using my 15″ MacBook Pro as my television, streaming Hulu and watching DVDs. That got old fast and my 2006 Pro was getting tired of the routine most.
